3 May 2009

Kath and I headed to the farm on Sunday, 3 May to do some work on the cabin and have a bit of look around.

We got up at 5.30am and left home about 6.30am - no sleep in this Sunday! We arrived at the farm just before 10am. It was a bit of a slow drive as we had about 100kg of timber on the back of the car for the cabin.

We didn't waste anytime getting down to work as cabin building was on the agenda. We had bought a stack of timber and it was good to see that the 2 poles put in after Easter were still standing. The weather was perfect with only a very light occasional breeze and not a cloud in the sky.

Kath and Fonzi got into some work.

I started work by digging the holes for the other 2 holes, leveling the poles and pouring the concrete. I was lucky to get the frame square to within a centimeter.

Here's Kath concreting - a rare sight! Fonzi is patrolling the work site making sure that we are pulling our weight.

While working away, Kath noticed a 4wd coming through the paddock - it was our new neighbour. After some introductions and a good chat, we got back to work. There's not enough time to chat on the farm when there's work to be done!!!!

Here's the cabin site from down the paddock. The cabin has turned out to be 11.5 m x 7m. A bit bigger than we had originally planned.

After poring the concrete, we sat down for some well deserved lunch and a drink (non-alcoholic). After the concrete set a bit, we put our initials in the concrete - to prove that we built it. Even Fonzi got a mention!!

We packed up just before 3pm and headed home. We stopped to look at the water level in the dam - no noticeable difference since Easter. Well at least its not any lower.

On the way out of the farm we saw a rabbit make a run for it. That was the first rabbit we had seen on the farm but didn't see any pigs today. Maybe next time.
